"The heart of man plans his way" – we are created with the capacity for foresight, for dreaming, for sketching out a future. King Solomon, the primary author of Proverbs, understood this well. Living in ancient Israel, where diligence in farming, building, and governance was crucial, planning wasn't optional; it was essential for survival and prosperity. Yet, he offered a powerful counter-balance to human ambition, reminding a diligent society (and us today) that there's a greater hand at work.
Proverbs 16 opens with a similar sentiment: "The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord" (v. 1).
